Simon on the spot says:
Disaster struck as the Dragon's season well and truly came off the rails. Maybe complacency was to blame when the opposition arrived with only 7 men, but somehow we managed to snatch a defeat from the jaws of victory.
The Singles
Tony won, Paul won, Geoff lost, Martin T lost, Rich lost, Horse lost, Simon won and Martin H. won (with a bye). (4 all - could have been worse).
The Doubles
Tony and Paul won (that's two in a row for this partnership), Geoff and Martin T lost, Rich and Horse lost, Simon and Martin H won. (6 all - the Dragon are still oozing confidence).
The Fours
We won the top 4! Surely now the bottom 4 would close out the match against 3 players. Of course not. A lead of several hundred was squandered with yet more double trouble. (8 all - now the nerves are starting to show, how can I face writing a losing report against 7 men?).
The Eight
LOST!!!! Yes the seven players thrashed us hitting several tons along the way. (lost the match 8 points to 11 to take away one point). Now we know how Bayern Munich felt when Solksjaer smashed in the winner in the 93rd minute at the Nou Camp!
Not much more to say really. The food was eaten despondently and £11.00 was collected for the blind. That must be a record - everyone was chucking money in as self inflicted punishment.
Tony and Paul can hold their heads up, winning their singles, doubles and 4, but that's about it. (the novelty of captaincy must be wearing off on Martin as the playing order was not well thought out was it? webmaster)
The league tables and cup draw are now available. Guess who we are playing in the first round of the cup - the White Hart A Team! They'll only need 6 players to beat us. At least we missed the preliminary round on 1st of January.
One of our results appears not to have made it into the league table, or we may have been top! (I feel sorry for the Hook & Glove - actually ranking below the BYE in the league, that must be embarrassing. Webmaster)
